new list -grixis

after weeks of winning with flare our meta in manteca has turned very hostile towards it....6 RDW/UR delver decks = bad weeks for me. so trying a new list taht will hopfully flip that and put the control people back on top lol....

Looks clean. Although, I have to say, I have preferred Rootbound Crag over Copperline Gorge in these kind of decks for the green. Just my two cents!

im just playing with SB options atm. i like yours but i think im kinda stuck on some match ups which make it hard to figure out the #s. Also the mental misteps are there for quick matchs up which gut shot is too, i was saying one or the other, not misstep for gut shot. im not sure but if you look at old rdw vs. new rdw there are more cmc 1 spells in it than the old that suck. for example,
new rdw - waif(rdw), noble, shock, delver(u/r delver), vapor snag (u/r delver)

old rdw - goblin guide, lightning bolt, and ????

so if we ran misstep just to stop guide before why not the 12 power one drops we have now...not including the potential to stop doomed traveler so they don't even get the token. so after some thought might try this sb instead:

2 ancient grudge (t-steel, mbI, rdw x1)
3 dissipate (tokens, ramp, control mirror)
2 Liliana of the veil (control mirror, ramp)
2 into the maw (ramp, haunted humans)
2 curse of death's hold (tokens, t-steel)
1 life's finale (haunted humans, pod, bug, etc midrange, ramp)
1 arc trail (rdw, t-steel, gw aggro)
2 bloodline keeper (midrange, ramp, control mirror)

obviously missing mental mistep, i wondered its usefulness when i am able to run shock/blast instead. curse of death's hold im still not sure on, i like it but seems really slow and often just seems like a win more card instead of accually making a difference...you could bsz for 3 for the same about of mana to make sure you kill t-steel creatures even with a temp on the field. so undecided about those cards, do like it a lot vs. tokens though. now more than ever since tokens stopped running anthem effects...just one curse = death for token decks now.

also, idk why i just hate surgical extraction, whenever someone plays it on me i just don't really care, although im not oppsed to it vs. ramp decks as with snapcaster, chandra you can eaasily just strip their deck of all threats. also life's finale is awesome vs. ramp w/ chandra in play, remove 6 creatures + their current titan....ya thats game. i suppose extration has some play vs. solar flare but not sure thats worth. but if i was going to run it i would want 2

Oh alright, I misread that! Yeah Misstep is cool, but I would rather have removal than counters against those fast decks.

As far as your revised SB list goes:
Dissipate, at least for what you are bringing it in against, could probably become Negate. It is a lot easier on the mana. Although I do like Dissipate against control! So maybe Negate and Dissipate as 2-1 or vice-versa?
You really like Into the Maw of Hell, don't you? It seems cool, but too cute (to use your own terms here). A simple Doom Blade would be just fine.
I feel the same about the Curse. I just added it because it isn't BAD; I am just wondering if there is anything better. Perhaps BSZ is the way to go there.

Also, on Surgical Extraction, I was thinking the same as you mentioned. Chandra and Snapcaster Mage really make it work. One Extraction is never too scary, but in tandem with your buddies, it can seriously deprive your opponent of cards that they would otherwise need to win. I think it deserved a spot, but I wouldn't run more than one. If you really want two of them, try it.

1) ok so maybe into the maw needs some explanation. it is the only card that can reverse a primeval titan -> KWR into the maw destroys both land and threat, which is a huge tempo swing back.

2) dissipate is better than negate in that it severs as a counter vs. solar flare, ub, uw, and ramp decks. negate cannot stop a wurmcoil engine, or inferno titan. Also doesn't stop the 2-1 ability of solar flare unburial rites. plus i don't think double u is a problem when i don't need it till turn 4-5 depending on my draw.

3) lastly, the reason for two surgical extractions over one is that you would be trying to hit it early, surgical extraction is almost pointless after turn 9, and i don't like the odds of 1/60 by turn 9. 1/30 is a lot better since with grixis you can get close to almost 25 -30 cards per 9turns.

4) honestly i could see cutting the curses for extractions if curse just turns out to be horrible.

5) thinking of putting 2 black sun zenith and 1 life's finale into the main deck over 3 slagstorm. granted not as cost effiective, but BSZ stops thurn from ruining my day.
